Part of the appeal of the Mario franchise has always been its intuitive controls, which allow casual gamers to dive into the action, while rewarding the fast finger-speed of veteran Nintendo warriors. "There is an unabashed joy in movement that makes even running around the colorful worlds and taking in the uplifting atmosphere feel special," the Gamespot team notes. Still, Gamespot says Nintendo has managed to make Super Mario Galaxy 2 look bright and inviting. Still, The Escapist's reviewer says that "the incredible creativity that goes into planets will nonetheless fill you with the kind of awe and glee you felt when you first started playing games."Īs most gamers know, the Nintendo Wii isn't exactly a high-powered machine. The Escapist acknowledges that Super Mario Galaxy 2 follows a pretty familiar Mario rubric: There's a princess to save, points to rack up, a scaly monster to defeat. But what makes Galaxy 2 so great? Let's go to the score cards. Over at Metacritic, Super Mario Galaxy 2 review scores hit an astounding average of 98 percentage points – a signal of just how unified the reviewers are in their appreciation of the game. (That argument fits much more for the New Super Mario Bros.Super Mario Galaxy 2 hits the Nintendo Wii today, and to judge by the critical reception, the latest installment in Nintendo's top-selling franchise is going to be a smash. Please don't call this game a copy-paste sequel, because while it uses the same engine, that's it for the most part. It introduces so many ideas that work just as well as the first game overall. Still, I love this game a lot, and it one of my favorite games ever, let alone Mario games. I really wanted to give this game a 10 like the first, but I think these little issues barely set the game back a point. The Green Stars are also kinda tedious, I'll admit, but at the same time, I thought they were really fun to find, as they make you search around the galaxy and discover places you might not have before. (Mario Squared, Stone Cyclone, Boss Blitz, etc.) I never hated these levels, because they were at least fun to revisit from the first game. Also, some of the galaxies in this game were rather lazy, specifically in World S. However, this is completely optional, and only came off as annoying at worst since I never used her guidance. You can get 1-ups all over the place, and Rosalina (in the form of a Cosmic Spirit) will literally guide you right to the Power Star if you fail too much. One thing for me is how this game helps you just a little too much. However, this game, like the first, ain't perfect either. Noticeably, it's a bit more colorful and bright than the first game's more gloomy approach. There's not a lot to say in terms of presentation, so.this game still looks phenomenal. I don't mind this change at all, it makes it seem more like Mario's home style, and I like that a lot. The level design is far more linear than the first game's, so there aren't many places where you walk on spherical planets anymore. They improved the Prankster Comets and made them a lot more fun and challenging, they added awesome new power-ups, and.is that Yoshi!? Using his own power-ups!?!? These games just had so many good ideas, and that's to be expected, because Nintendo said that they couldn't even use all the ideas for the first game, so they just straight up said, here's another. In other words, I love the game just as much as I did previously. However, this was the one and only aspect that disappointed me, because everything else was a blast from beginning to end! The gameplay is either slightly superior or slightly inferior. Instead we get Lubba, who's honestly a guilty pleasure to me. Rosalina barely shows up in this one, and that's kinda sad. The one downside to this game is that plot-wise, there's not nearly as much as there was previously. Anyway, why is the game so good you ask? Well, I will admit that it's not quite as good as the first one, but it's still incredible. (let alone Mario games) Thank you Nintendo for such a wonderful game.oh what? I guess I got too nostalgic for a moment. It also explains why it's one of my most played games ever. When I first saw the trailer for Super Mario Galaxy 2 a decade ago when I was a dumb little 1st Grader, I lost my **** My favorite video game of all time was getting a sequel!! When I finally managed to get it for Christmas that year, of course I loved it! This game means so much to me, because it was always there for me whenever I had a bad day at school.
